Phoenix In Flight

‘Phoenix In Flight’ (Second Edition, 2011) a compilation of Dr. Mizanur Rahman Shelley’s English poems written during the last decades of the 20th century and the first eleven years of the new Millennium. He wrote these as he traveled along the throbbing corridors of pulsation times. These writings represent memorable encounters and electric experience. In essence, these are creations of undying moments. Some are tinged with colourful joy, some others tinted by poignant sadness of transient life. Yet others are marked by evanescent portraits of happenings seen ‘as through a glass darkly’.
Shelley perceives poetry, basically, as an endeavour ‘to see the world in a grain of sand’. According to him it is a difficult job. The mission appears to remain consistently unfulfilled. The world and the life it sustains elude total comprehension. In many ways they represent a tiny fragment of the myriad mysteries of the cosmos. In the final analysis, poems reflect the attempts of the human mind to build bridges of feelings and emotions ‘from here to eternity’. Shelley’s efforts in this volume are no exception.
